TRANSPARENT |
The advantage of transparency is obvious. Opaque plastic and metal hinges are visual obstructions that detract from the clarity of acrylic. |
|
ULTRA TOUGH |
Only Plexiglas DR® and MI-7®, manufactured by the ATOHAAS Company, are used to produce Acryl-Hinges, Flex-Fold and other Westedge products. These premium, high impact materials are 5 to 10 times tougher than regular acrylic.

SOLVENT CEMENTABLE |
Solvent cementing eliminates the drawbacks of using bolts, nuts, rivets and other fasteners that require drilled holes. Fasteners are expensive to buy, and time-consuming to install. Drilled holes become areas of stress concentration and cause cracking, especially near edges where hinges are usually mounted. Metal hinges, and metal fasteners on plastic hinges, can rust or corrode in damp environments and contaminate clean areas. They attract dust and dirt which presents serious problems for food handling, and medical or laboratory applications. Methylene chloride, trichlorethylene, and all commonly used solvent and monomeric type cements will bond Acryl-Hinges and Flex-Fold to acrylic. High strength can be achieved using standard cementing techniques as shown below. |

LABOR SAVING |
Solvent cementing is quicker than drilling holes and attaching fasteners. Count the minutes. How long does it take to install a metal hinge? What are your minutes worth? At the common shop rate in the United States of $30 per hour, minutes cost 50 cents each. Chances are, the labor to install a metal hinge is several times more expensive than the hinge. Metal hinges and plastic hinges which require metal fasteners are impractical and expensive when compared to Acryl-Hinges and Flex-Fold which can be cemented in seconds.
